"I Promise" Out of all of Cheri's songs, the one that has had the most impact is "I Promise". In 1995, shortly after the Oklahoma City Bombing tradedy, Cheri attended a songwriter's seminar. The speaker at that seminar gave everyone in the class an assignment: "You are to each write a song, putting yourself in the place of a firefighter who is searching for victims in the Oklahoma City Bombing. Imagine that you are holding someone in your arms who you know is not going to survive, and the song is to be your last words to that person." Cheri wrote "I Promise". She prays that amidst these terrible disasters, believers can find comfort in knowing that they will one day be with their loved ones again in Heaven, with Jesus.
